Tropical fruit forward IPA with moderate bitterness built on a foundation of locally grown craft malt and fermented cold with our house lager yeast strain.
6.4% ABV
What kind of fish is this? Fear not, no scaley aquatic friends were harmed in the making of this offering. We brew this special IPA once a year to celebrate one of the newer hop varieties to hit the scene: Anchovy. Selected and celebrated by the folks Fast Fashion Beer and grown by the legendary Segal Hop Ranch in Washington this emerging hop variety has an enticing and delightful essence of watermelon hard candy, pine, and unique tropical flourishes.
Each year we present a similar base beer aiming for an approachable 6.4%. This rendition features some stellar Goschie’s Promise malt from Admiral Maltings which was grown on the Goschie Farms Estate and floor-malted by our supplier-partners Admiral Maltings in Alameda.
Once hop harvest season winds down and the new crop comes available we pair freshly pelletized Anchovy with a rotating selection of some of our favorite hop varieties. This year’s batch features a contemplative blend of Freestyle Nelson in the whirlpool with an abundance of Mosaic and Anchovy dry hop after fermentation. We get heady impressions of tropical fruit, juicy watermelon, and zippy lime zest with a dash of spice.
Our Distinctive Rarities series presents small batch creations that serve as one-off delights focused on both novel and traditional approaches to classic and emerging styles. These beers are designed to be ephemeral and short lived but well enjoyed. These offerings will focus on experimental techniques/ingredients, and celebrate the changing of seasons and the rewards of harvest.
