Natural Monument West Coast Pilsner

A crisp and refreshing Pilsner with just the right level of tropical hop intensity. 5.3%

Natural Monument, our West Coast Pilsner, is a highlight of some of our favorite hop varieties paired with our unique approach to lager beer production. Mashed with 100% California grown barley malted & kilned by our friends Admiral Maltings in the Bay Area to create a blend of two distinct Pilsner malts.

Once in the kettle, we hop this golden elixir with a blend of German-grown Huell Melon and Spalt Select to showcase both old world and new world European hop varieties. In the whirlpool we employ heaps of Krush (HBC586) to create a West Coast twist on the Pilsner style. Fermented low and slow with our house lager yeast, we patiently wait until it’s time to add another layer of hop intensity.

At the tail end of fermentation we add a heady charge of Oregon-grown Luminosa (a new show stopper from the great folks Indie Hops) along with the ever-impactful Krush to create a bouquet of unique nectarine, tropical fruit, and a smidge of gooseberry with a bit of herbaceous aura around the edges.

For our current batch, we’ve snuck in a bit of southern hemisphere Nectaron from Freestyle Hops to elevate the expression and test out a bit of New Zealand terroir. The end of each crop year presents us with an opportunity to explore alternative hop varieties while we wait eagerly for the next harvest to become available.

Like all of our lagers, we utilize 100% craft malt from Admiral Maltings with the goal of allowing these unique grains to express their flavor and impact without intervention. Natural Monument is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and clarified through the use of extended cold aging and an abundance of patience.

This is our final batch of Natty Mons for this year and we’re quite pleased with its current expression. Come try some before it’s gone for the winter!
